This news alert is about a 60 Minutes Program to air this Wednesday about miracle cures or madness. Before we get to that just a reminder:

Your responses to the Consultation Paper for the development of a Natural Health Products Bill are due in today so if you haven’t posted it, or received an extension you will need to email it in to nhpproposal@moh.govt.nz. We have heard from a member that the email keeps bouncing back. On contacting the MOH we found out that they had over 800 responses to clear so the inbox was full. If you have this issue call the MOH (04) 496 2000 and ask them for an alternative email or extension (in writing) so you can post it in.

Back to 60 Minutes. Here is the marketing for the up and coming program on TV3 Wednesday 19th. It is accompanied by a picture of a woman with a very big cyst on her head.

“If you had a serious illness, would you go to a naturopath or an iridologist instead of a regular doctor? Yvonne Main went to an alternative therapist to help heal her cyst. But it slowly ate away her skull … It was 16 months before she got to a doctor.

We hope that this program will be balanced. Our spokeswoman, Nicola Grace, was contacted by 60 minutes but too late for possible inclusion for the program. Nicola asked the Producer if the program was going to be balanced and the response was “You always get a balanced program from 60 minutes”.

We certainly hope so. We ask those of you interested to watch the program and follow up with comments by letters into the program and on their website with your views.
